Henry
I received a letter from you and one from William. I was glad to hear from you and to get your likeness [and] to hear you are well. I prize those pictures very much. The children called it "Pa". Thank you very much for that. I want mother and the rest [to see it?]. Henry, my health is better than it was in the summer. You write [that you want] to know how I get along; Hard times for me. If I could get my due, like [it] belongs to me, I could get along very well. I never have received but one from the start he will have it. William was discharged last March and I have [only] had twenty-five dollars since last spring. Every thing [we have] to buy [is] so dear, for so many little children, [it] makes it hard times. Alden, we expect him home every day . He is discharged. My folks all well send love and respect to you. You must excuse [this] short letter, and I will write more next time to you. My baby stands at my elbow crying ever since I tried to write. Can you read it? William , if he does not write to you, direct you letter the same as before. I hope and trust in God that we all [will] meet again. It is almost impossible for me to get time to write.
