Thumbprint view of K. A. Burnell. Christian Commission Agent for the State of Wisconsin. He wears a long beard with no moustache; dark coat; military style vest; white shirt and tie. According to the inscription, Burnell was located at the Christian Commission Home in Memphis in April 1865 when he met Lyndon Briggs. A letter from him is published in William DeLoss Love's book, "Wisconsin in the War of the Rebellion", 1866, on page 751. Here he describes the Battle of Pleasant Hill, LA on April 9, 1864, which he witnessed. |
