George listed his residence as Oshkosh, Winnebago County when he enlisted there on Aug. 8, 1862. He was assigned as above and was promoted to Corporal in that company. George was then discharged by order on Feb. 28, 1864 due to a disability.

Abstract One two-day pass issued to George S. Bourne on August 24, 1862 allowing him to go from Camp Bragg in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Fond du Lac, WI. It describes him as 24 years old, 5', 5" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and a farmer. It is signed by Charles N. Paine.

Notes George Smith Bourne was born on November 27, 1837 at Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts, the son of Mary Smith and Franklin Bourne. By 1860 the family had migrated west and were living on a farm in the Town of Oshkosh. George enlisted in Company B, 21st Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry on Aug. 8, 1862. He was assigned as a private and was promoted to Corporal in that company. George was then discharged by order on February 28, 1864 due to a disability. His father had served as a sergeant in the same company until he was discharged March 6, 1863. George was married on January 21, 1870 to Susan A. Day at Louisville, Kentucky. The couple had two sons born at Louisville. George was a furniture dealer there for a number of years. In 1897 he was living in Kansas, where he applied for an invalid pension. He died at Hutchinson, Kansas on February 7, 1913.
