Early museum records claim worn by Mrs J. D. Doty , wife of Governor Doty of Wisconsin

Sarah Collins Doty married James Duane Doty in Buffalo, New York on April 14, 1823. She had three children James, Charles and Mary. She died on February 21, 1871 and is buried at Riverside Cemetery in the Fitzgerald lot (her daughter had married John Fitzgerald a prominent Oshkosh businesman).
