Admin/Biog History Heinrich Kitz was born in Lessenrich, Prussia (Germany) on January 31, 1796. His parents were Bartholomeaus and Veronica Winterscheidt Kitz. He married Gertrud Fendel on April 21, 1822. The couple had seven children, all born in Duisdorf: Margaretha, born September 30, 1825 and died in Germany April 3, 1832; Henry, born December 19, 1827; Gertrude, born March 15, 1829; Helena, born January 5, 1831; Mathias, born March 28, 1833; Frank, born July 12, 1834; and Maria born in 1840. The family immigrated to the United States on the S. S. Conway from Liverpool, England to New York City, arriving on June 3, 1853. They lived briefly in Hoboken, New Jersey and for several years in Toledo, Ohio before arriving in Oshkosh, WI in late in 1857. Heinrich does not appear in the 1860 US Census in any state. Gertrude died in Oshkosh December 18, 1864.

Abstract Prussian Passport from 1853 allowing Heinrich Kitz and his family to immigrate to America:

"The signatory royal government/ reign certifies that it has been approved for the brickmaker Heinrich Kitz from Duisdorf in the district of Bonn on his request and because of his emigration to America with his wife Gertrud, née Vendel, and his children

1. Helena Kitz, 22 years old
2. Mathias Kitz, 19 years old
3. Franz Kitz, 18 years old
4. Maria Kitz, 13 years old

the dismissal from the Prussian subject combine. This dismissal-document causes only for the persons mentioned in it and at the time of its surrendering the loss of the property/ quality as Prussian subject.
