Bust view copy (circa 1885) of an earlier daguerreotype of James Lewis. He wears a dark frock coat, paisley vest and large cravat, popular in the 1840s and 1850s. James Lewis was born in Wales. He married Jane Morris on June 6, 1848. They settled on a farm near Rosendale in Section 9, Fond du lac County. The couple had three children: Sarah Lewis Edwards (wife of Benjamin Edwards) Caleb Lewis; and Anna Lewis Jones (wife of Watkin V. Jones). James died on February 6, 1880 and was buried at Zoar Church Cemetery in Winnebago County. |
