Description	9th plate colodian emulsion tintype on black japanned tin of Alexander H. Read; stamped brass ornate mat and oval opening, stamped brass preserver, glass, wood case brown embossed paper cover with ornamental scroll; brass hook closure and eye.
Notes	Bust view a middle aged man, possibly Alexander H. Read. He wears a dark vest, dark coat; white shirt; and dark cravat. He wears his hair somewhat long and over the ears and has beard below his chin. Alexander H. Read was born in New York State in 1823. He was a pioneer merchant in Oshkosh, arriving in 1848. He operated a Dry goods; grocery; and confectioner's shop on Main Street. He also held the office of Clerk of the County Board of Supervisors 1860-1864; City treasurer 1857. His wife's name was Frances E. Read. They had at least one son Benjamin C. Read. Alexander died circa 1890.
