Notes Carte de visite of James Willock, early Oshkosh settler and painter. He is wearing a dark frock coat , vest with watch chain and trousers. He wears a beard without mustache.
James Willock was born in Ireland in 1821, the son of Andrew Willock. He was married to Margaret and the couple had three children: Sarah, born in Ireland; Andrew, born in Massachusettes; and Elizabeth. He immigrated to the US in 1846 and in 1850 he was living in Lowell, Massachusettes and working as a painter. He brought his family to Oshkosh in 1856. He was a painter by occupation and specialized in hand-graining woodwork. He built a house at 45 (118) Fulton and lived there until his death. Margaret Willock died in 1892, and James married Wilhelmina. James died June 29, 1905. Wilhelmina survived him until 1925.
