6th plate tinted daguerreotype of John & Abigail Seville with plain brass mat, brass preserver, glass, and embossed leatherette case with two brass closure hooks, and embossed red velvet lining on lid.

Three-quarter seated view of John & Abigail Seville. This tinted daguerreotype was copied by a Milwaukee photographer c 1865 and is in the OPM collection P2000.34.34. Mr. Seville is posed sitting next to his wife, he is wearing a dark colored suit with a very high collar, he is balding and clean shaven. Mrs. Seville wears a silk like wrap over her dress, a white daycap and has a open envelope and spectacles on her lap. They are both pleasantly smiling, which is unusual for images taken with long exposure times.
John and Abigail Seville were immigrants from England that settled in Merrimac, Wisconsin in the 1850s. Abigail was born circa 1792 and in 1860 was a widow living with her son James Seville. Her daughter Mary Seville, married Oshkosh businessman Robert Hellard and went on to have three sons, Frank, Charles & Robert A. Hellard. |
