Notes Bust view of Herman Derksen. He is wearing a dark coat and vest; shirt and bow tie. He wears a long moustache. Herman Derksen was born circa 1845 in Holland. He first appears in the Oshkosh City Directories in 1872 in business with his father Thomas V. Derksen & Son Cigar makers. On October 9, 1872 he married Emilie Ernst, daughter of Conrad Ernst. The couple had a son Reinhold in 1877, and Oscar and Ernst. He was in business by himself making cigars and selling tobacco on Main Street for many years and later with his sons as Herman Dirksen & Sons. He died June 1, 1934 at the age of 89.
