Bodice back is curved at the sides with a pleated fabric insert with a bow and eight buttons at center back. Fitted set-in sleeves have a military style, cuff decorated with three buttons and three red bound button holes; a fringe of lace extends from each sleeve. Skirt front is fitted over the hips forming pleats that are gathered into a bow on the right side, under-skirt has 3 rows of black and white fringe sewn above a row of red and black and white striped dress fancy pleated fabric; skirt is gathered in back to fit over a bustle.

Donor, Mrs. H. M. Clark (the second Mrs Clark); claimed dress had been worn by the mother of H. M. Clark (Sarah Flint Clark 1828-1917), but dress looks more appropriately to have been worn by the first Mrs. H. M Clark (Julia Frentz Clark died 4/16/1893 and who married H. M. Clark on Nov. 1, 1876).
