Description

| Stem only. Made of one piece of wood; cut, smoothed and unpainted with natural finish and light polish. Broad, flat with rounded edges; 2 sections are cut away leaving 3 cylinders, the center cylinder presumably the smoke tube. From the mouthpiece: 9.7 cm to 9.9 cm broad flat band; 20.2 cm to 20.4 cm section of 3 cylinders (6 mm to 8 mm in diameter, not completely round); 8.8 cm broad flat band; 17.5 cm section of 3 cylinders (6 mm to 9 mm in diameter, not completely round); 3.9 cm to 4.2 cm broad flat band. The mouthpiece and bowl-end extend from the center of either ends of the stem and are approximately 2 mm shorter in height than stem; the mouthpiece is a tapered, flattened cylinder (2.5 cm long); the bowl-end is a slightly tapered cylinder (3.1 cm long) and has dark resinous stains.
From the Arthur P. Kannenberg collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Another type (reference to 1998.22.250, 5002APK) of pipe stem for a calumet. The Potawatomi of Wisconsin used this type ever since they came in contact with the white man. I secured this one from Reginald Oshkosh."
