Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-72 (4550APK): "Calumet. Locality: Neopit, Wis. Received from Charlie Dutchman, Neopit, Menominee Reserve, A. P. Kannenberg Collection, Date: 1928. Catlinite. This pipe is prized very highly by me. It was once a clan pipe or a ceremonial pipe used in the Dream Dance Lodge and the Medicine Lodge among the pagan Menominees in the Zoar Settlement above Neopit, Wisconsin Menominee Reservation. I secured it from my old friend, Charlie Dutchman, an old medicine man." And "I also have the stem (missing) for this pipe."
To date (04/12/2007), the museum has not located this stem. |
