Description 
Red pipestone. Elbow pipe with human portrait carved on front of bowl. Raised octagonal band around bowl rim and raised circular band with longitudinal grooves around stem-end. Part of stem-end broken away. From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Catlinite effigy pipe. Siouian. Made of Wisconsin, Barron County catlinite or pipestone. It was found while plowing by a farmer in Waupaca County. He sold it to Edgar Falk who in turn sold it to me. It has a human face carved on the front of the bowl. The stem is fractured. (Received from) Edgar Falk." Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-64 (4736APK) includes: "Portrait pipe. Locality: Waupaca, Waupaca County, WI. Received from Edgar Falk. Catlinite. This pipe bears the face of a human on the front of the pipe with a turban as a headdress. The end of the stem hole is partly broken away. It was found by a farmer in Waupaca while plowing. He sold it to Edgar Falk who in turn sold it to me."
