Possibly restored patches with faint incised "H" and "K". From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "A pottery pipe found on the H. Karrow farm. It has an H. K. engraved on it. (Received from) Mr. H. Karrow, Oshkosh, WI." Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-43 (3500APK): "Pottery pipe, unfinished. Locality: Town of Oshkosh, Winnebago County. Received from Walter Karrow. Clay. This pipe is unquestionably a fake. It shows all indications and evidences of being made by a white man. Possibly some kind of grease was used at the mouth or stem end, you can notice the teeth marks of some kind of rodent."
