Description Fraud? Shell tempered ceramic. Squat; front of bowl conical cross section; stem-end round cross section. Identified as a fake by former OPM curator Robert Hruska.

From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Pottery disc pipe, shell tempered. This is another pipe found with the material from the burials on the Walter Karrow farm. (See OPM 1998.22.178, 1998.22.179, 1998.22.234, 1998.22.235, 1998.22.238.) (Received from) Walter Karrow."

Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-37 (5085APK); "Pottery disc pipe. Locality: Town of Oshkosh, Winnebago County. Received from Walter karow. Shell tempered pottery. These pottery pipes are very rare and unusual. This one was also found with a number of other pipes while plowing in the sandy ridge, mentioned on previous cards, with two skeletons and other material."
