Wide bowl with lip (partially broken away); stem-end has a round cross section with flat bottom and has 3 incised encircling grooves; both sides of the shank have incised line designs of a "+" closest to the prow and a "+" enclosed within a circle nearer the stem-end; the shank continues in front of the bowl in a tapered prow with an incised "+" enclosed within a circle on top at the prow end (partially broken away); the shank bottom has a line of two double chevrons (partially obliterated by battering.) From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Monitor shape steatite pipe. It was found by Mr. Breadschneider on his farm on the south shore of Lake Poygan while plowing. It is decorated in primitive style on all four sides, cone shape, 4 cornered. (Received from ) Mr. Breadschneider." Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-67 (4298APK): "Steatite monitor pipe. Locality: Paul Bretschneider farm, Poygan Township, Winnebago County, WI. Purple steatite. This pipe was found on a sandy knoll just behind the Bretschneider house on the south shore of Lake Poygan. Notice the five crosses inscribed on both sides and tope, 3 are encircled."
