| Description |
Limestone pebble, all surfaces are smooth and polished. One side has an incised line and drilled hole human face profile. The other side has an possible human face portrait but has recent abrasions accentuating possible original design and recently drilled eyes.
From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Pebble effigy stone pipe. It was found while plowing a field west of Winneconne in what is known as the Potawatomie plat by Mr. Sheldon. It has a prehistoric face carved on each flat side, one is a front view and the other a side view. I received it from Arden Sheldon."
Original catalog card written by Kannenbger for L300-39 (5080APK): "Portrait pipe. Locality: Omro, Winnebago County. Received from Arden Sheldon. Flinty limestone. This pipe is a very interesting piece. It has a portrait on both sides. The one on the right side is a profile side view. The one on the left side is a full front view but very much worn by the weather. Both holes are drilled and gouged out. It was found on a farm bordering the Fox River above Omro many years ago by the father of Arden Sheldon; he sold it to me."
