Description Serpentine? The small hole (noted below) penetrates the bowl.

Original catalog card: "Short-base Monitor Pipe (Bluish Steatite). Locality: Found near the banks of the Wisconsin River, Merrill, Wis. Received from Carl Wittman Collection, Merrill, Wis. Date: Feb 22, 1941. This is a very interesting specimen. Notice all the notches cut around the edge of the bowl, some are obliterated. There is a tiny hole drilled into the front face of the pipe evidently to receive a feather or other ornament."
