| Description |
Purple steatite pipe-head. Conical bowl with six encircling incised lines around bowl exterior; fine incised lines on most of bowl lip, sections of fine vertical hatch lines (original?) below lowest encircling line; stem broken away just after elbow. Restoration includes fabricated stem; bowl cracks and losses filled in with light purple material.
Original catalog card: "Restored Calumet made into an Elbow Pipe. Locality: Heafford Jc. Lincoln County, Wis. Received from Carl Wittman Collection. Date: Feb 22, 1941. The bowl is made from purple steatite. This pipe was a fine steatite specimen before it was reconstructed. From all indications this piece was reconstructed from two different fragments." |
