Broken disc? pipe. Approximately half of the bowl remaining; broken disc(?) has rounded or cut edges; top of stem shank broken away, finished stem end. Lime/calcium(?) accretions.
From the Benedict Collection acquired by Charles Koehn.
Excerpt from the Koehn catalog includes: "A red pipestone Effigy Pipe. This was found at Eureka, Wisc. It must have been in the shape of an L(?) Effigy. History unknown. Benedict Collection."
Original catalog card: "Broken Catlinite Disk Pipe. Locality: Eureka, Winnebago, Co. Received from E. Benedict - C. Koehn Coll. The disk on this pipe would have been 5 1/4 inches in circumference. It was a surface fine in a plowed field." |
