Record 37/41 Catalog Record Archaeological Sites Exhibit Page Home Search Image 4 of 5 Description  Tube or Elbow pipe. Tan-brown pipestone or steatite. Approximately 1/2 of a pipe/pipe bowl present. Continuous hole, 1.3 cm diameter at one end and 0.7 cm diameter at other end. Incised design: heartline motif (bison) and/or turkey-track motif. The Heartline motif consists of a line that starts at the mouth of an animal and terminates in the chest, presumably at the heart. The animal represented is most likely a bison. Ethnographic data imply an association with hunting magic. The design symbolized having spiritual control over the depicted figure. This pipe was found in the mid-1970s in the spoils from road construction at or next to Lasleys Point.
