Description
Limestone. Overall uneven smoothed and polished. Possibly from the Karow Cemetery/Village, see following conflicting provenience. From the Arthur P. Kannenberg collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Ovoid pebble pipe found in a field while plowing about 4 miles south of Oshkosh on the shore of Lake Winnebago by Arthur Pommerening. I purchased from the finder." Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-34 (APK 5092): "Ovoid pipe. Locality: Town of Oshkosh, Winnebago County. Received from Walter Karow. Flinty limestone. This pipe was a surface find. Walter Karow plowed it up on a sandy ridge running parallel with the lake shore. He found the pipe in 1926."
