Asymetrical bowl lip; broken base (broken edges smoothed/worn); large chip at finished stem-end; shank tapers to curved prow with 3 large notches. From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Small catlinite disc pipe. The bowl is fractured. It was found by Walter Karow while he was plowing on his farm, 5 miles north of Oshkosh on the lake shore road. (Received from) Walter Karow." Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-35 (3919APK): "Catlinite discoidal pipe. Locality: Town of Oshkosh, Winnebago County. Received from Walter Karow. Wisconsin catlinite. This was a surface find by Walter Karow while plowing a corn field on his farm on County Trunk A, 5 miles north of Oshkosh. It has a bad fracture on the base. It must have been used as a Medicine Man's pipe. Found in 1915 by Walter Karow. $1.00 (presumabley Kannenberg paid Karow for the pipe.)" Notations on the back of (a Milwaukee Public Museum?) photographic print include: Handleless disk pipe. Found on the Walter Karrow farm, Town of Oshkosh, Winnebago County, WI. It was a surface find. Made of red catlinite. The bowl is broken away half way down. It has three notches cut in at the base."
