| Description |
Pipe? Purple pipestone. Originally part of a pipe stem with a perforated crest(?). Both ends reworked.
From the Arthur P. Kannenberg collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "Part of a beautiful pipe. It was dredged up at Spring Brook near Reigh Moor in 1932. I received it from the finder, Mr. Gabe Rothe, who has a summer cottage near there."
Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-48 (5557APK): "Reworked Siouan calumet pipe. Locality: Omro Township, Winnebago County. Received from Charles Roth. Purple catlinite. This pipe at one time may have been the decorated base of a large calumet. The calumet was possibly broken by accident, this part was saved and made into a high bowled pipe. It was dredged up at Spring Brook while digging a channel."
This is possibly from the Reigh Site, 47-WN-1. |
