Underwater Panther incised design on both sides of bowl and stem. Bowl: small head with two horns/ears; rectangular body with patterned hatching on one side and cross hatching on other side; two sets of legs with forward-facing feet/claws. Stem: very long tail with end loop near the stem-end. Unrelated(?) deep incised line just above head on one side of bowl. Presumably an Underwater Panther design on side of bowl that faces the smoker: plan (overhead) view of a long tailed oblate (swimming?) creature with four sets of legs(?). Squiggle and straight incised lines on underside of stem; squiggle incised lines on top of stem. Stem-end is broken off; part of one side of bowl is spalled off; exhibit wax accretions. Original catalog card: "Trumpet-shaped Pipe. (No locality). Received from S. D. Mitchell Collection. Bluish chlorite. This pipe is extensively carved in primitive fashion. It represents a trap with a beaver in close proximity, also that the trap is placed right over the trail which runs along the stem. A very interesting specimen."
