Reworked pipe stem, hexagonal cross section; narrower end (cut? and) plugged with wood, a new smoke hole drilled into side 8mm from end, no discernible resinous accretions; wider end has dark resinous stains, battered and chipped. Numerous overall recent abrasions and gouges. From the Arthur P. Kannenberg Collection. He recorded the following in his catalog: "High bowled pipe, made of catlinite. This pipe evidently was a calumet, the bowl was possibly broken off accidentally. It was redrilled and made into a high-bowl pipe. It was found in 1914 by Mr. Charles E. Kempf on the south shore of Lake Poygan while breaking up a new piece of land. (Received from Chas. Kempf.) Original catalog card written by Kannenberg for L300-47 (7035APK): "High-bowled pipe. Locality: Poygan Township, Winnebago County. Received from Charles kempf. Catlinite. This pipe may have been a calumet at one time. The bowl was possibly broke off accidentally, it was redrilled and made into a high bowled pipe. It was found in 1914 by Mr. Kempf on the south shore of Lake Poygan while breaking up a new piece of land."
