People of the Waters - Woodland
OPM #:
2427-1
Object Name:
Projectile Point
Description:
Snyders Corner Notched(?); area of many, small overlapping flake scars result of extreme resharpening; area of few large flake scars; sides of haft (notch edge remnants) are moderately ground; most of haft edge has been damaged; unidentified chert, unheated(?); Middle Woodland(?). This point has probably been extensively resharpened, greatly altering its outline. Originally this point was probably a typical Snyders point; resharpening has drastically narrowed the point, steepened the edges, and changed the point outline to look more like a side notched point. Unidentified material; appears to have been in water for an extensive period of time and absorbed enough trace minerals to darken and change the color. Even weathering, the surface is generally very lustrous, suggesting heat treatment.
