Object Name:
Dice
Description:
Set of 8 dice made of bone; one Thunderbird or Eagle and 7 circular/oval discs.
Comments:
These small bone pieces are used in a game of chance played by women, usually in winter. It was a complicated game with many rules and methods of counting points. The bone pieces were placed in a bowl and gently tossed. One side of the bone was painted and points were determined based on color and markings. Any piece that fell out of the bowl was not counted.

These gaming pieces were collected on the Menominee Reservation and are probably deer bone. The dice game was replaced by card games.
